FRIENDS

One thing that helped me during this pandemic is definitely FRIENDS. Yes I am talking about the world famous sitcom FRIENDS. I have always heard about “Friends” from my friends as well as my English teachers. But I never really watched it thinking it is too long. But let me tell you I did try to watch it in my 6th grade but at that time I was too naive to understand the jokes or the English so I didn't like it and couldn't finish even one season. But today when I watch Friends I can totally relate and sympathize with each and every character at a certain point. Many shows come and go in life but there are some which are inked forever in our mind and friends is definitely one of them.

          Friends is an American sitcom, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. It revolved around the life of six adults in their 20’s living in New York. Every character of Friends was unique and taught us something. Let's start with the little perfectionist Monica Geller. Her line from the first season itself, “Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You're gonna love it”. That pretty much sums up the life of an adult. Then there was Rachel Green, the daddy’s girl who struggled and thrived but managed to live her life with her friends. The last girl to complete the trio was Phoebe Buffay. She had a pretty rough childhood but she never let it get in her way of growing up. Her song Smelly Cat was very iconic and catchy. All the girls had one thing in common except being beautiful was that they were independent and were equals in this world of misogynists.  

          Then there were boys: Ross, Chandler, Joey. Ross Geller was Monica’s brother. He definitely taught us selflessness in love. He showed that despite many marriages or should I say divorces you will find your one and only true love. Chandler Bing’s middle name was definitely sarcastic. His most famous line, “I'm Not Great At The Advice. Can I Interest You In A Sarcastic Comment?” definitely depicts his witty nature. He was no doubt the funniest of the group. The last was Joey Tribbiani. Joey was a struggling actor, but he showed that friendship is most precious and above all the other relationships.

    All the characters of this beautiful series are related to us and will forever be part of our life. They taught us all about being together through thick and thin. All the actors did justice to the characters of the show. They did a marvelous job and I can't imagine any other people playing their roles. I have always seen people asking “Are you watching Friends?” instead of “Have you watched Friends?”. It is like they never stopped watching Friends and I think that is beautiful. There is not a single episode in Friends where you will not laugh your heart out believe me. As I am reminiscing the memories of Friends, the intro song of Friends “I’ll be there for you….” is playing in the background. And let me tell you this song is famous would definitely be an understatement. The reason why “Friends” is so beloved is because it shows us what we truly want in life - a tight knit social group that we are always a part of, no matter how bad we screw up. I would like to end by saying a very famous line from Friends, “ Boyfriends and girlfriends come and go, but this... is for LIFE”.
